Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Nick Motto. I am a full-stack software developer at TaxSlayer. Outside of work I enjoy skateboarding, spending time with my wife and 6 year old son, hanging with friends, drinking the hoppiest of IPAs, and binge watching Netflix and HBO Go episodes. Oh yeah, and I was a drywall professional for 14 years before I went into software.
What are your best technical or creative skills?
I enjoy problem-solving and bug bashing. My passion, however, is back-end development. I love the engineering involved in constructing classes and libraries to communicate between data sources and the front-end.
Why the interest in the technology field?
I have always loved tearing things apart to understand them and see if there are tweaks to improve them. It’s the limitless nature of software and technology that motivates me and keeps me striving for more.
How do you stay informed on emerging trends?
Fortunately, at TaxSlayer, I am surrounded by developers that enjoy working with new technologies and the company does a great job providing the tools and resources we need to stay up to date and working with new technologies during our daily routine. Following quite a few leaders in the industry on Twitter helps as well.
What’s next on your list to learn?
I like to peruse Pluralsight for new technologies I have not been able to work with yet. I haven’t gotten a ton of Powershell exposure yet, but love the flexibility it supplies.
